What's this site about?
Apart from the obvious (Nick Warren), it was an opportunity for me to author a site on something I was interested in.

I started the site at the end of 2004. It was really just to keep my hand in, my career had changed and I was on the road selling eCommerce web sites to Direct Marketing (mail order) businesses throughout the UK. Prior to that my job had been a lot more hands on web design. Also it was an opportunity to do some web programming with Microsoft .Net, I'd mainly been working with ColdFusion on previous projects.

Why did I start it?

Apart from the reasons I'd mentioned above, it was to pay respect to my favourite DJ Nick Warren. I'd had a bit of a crap time of the previous two years. My Grandfather had died at the beginning of 2002 and my Dad had followed him near enough a year to the day afterwards. I'd wallowed in self-pity for a bit, but I got inspiration from listening to Nicks mixes again.

I'd first heard Nick mix on a CD of my brother's (André) at a one of parties at our friend's Lee's. His folks must have been away. The Mix was Nick's first recording for Global Underground (Prague 003). I remember dancing to it on the roof of the garage and watching what I then (naively) thought to be a shooting star moving across the night sky. It turned out to be a satellite.

After that we tried to catch Nick playing live whenever he was playing at clubs locally. We even managed to get to Amnesia in Ibiza to see him in the middle of our holiday in 1996 (hell fire, that's 10 years ago!). Wherever it was, I always enjoyed it and I always looked forward to the next Global Underground instalment.

Going out clubbing isn't as easy as it as it used to be, but I try and get to somewhere when NW is playing. We've (my partner Joanne [AKA - DJ FloJo] and I) been to Turnmills a few times and managed a trip to Northern Ireland last year to visit Kelly's in Portrush. I'm going to try and get up to Edinburgh next month and am looking forward to the Paris mix for GU. The best night in recent years was the GU party at Mint Leeds to promote GU028 (Shanghai) when it was released.

Where's all the content from?
Most of it comes from other sites. I'm not really doing it to piss anybody off. Where ever possible I try and acknowledge the original author. As sites come and go then this is just a way of pulling all the info together in one place for anybody who is interested. I just haven't got the time to sit down and write the stuff myself from scratch.

I'm involved in a lot of SEO stuff now. I'd like to think you'd got here, to this point, 'cause I know what I'm doing!

Thanks. AshWarP (Ashley Warren Preston).

In memory of John Vincent Preston and Harry Hindle.

PS I'm listening to a mix by Davin Greenwell - AKA AFK - AKA Ariz0na, as I write this.
If you like Nick Warren's mixes, you might like his.
Visit Ariz0na's (AFK's) site - Download the AFK mix I am currently listening to

Dedicated to Nick Warren, in my humble opinion, the best house DJ there is!

Nick Warren, one of the pioneers of the UK dance scene. Nick was the original tour dj for Massive Attack and is still rated in the higher reaches of the DJ Top 100 list and is also a member of the UK band Way Out West
